About us
We bought the hotel in June 2003 because we fell in love with this hidden part of Wales.
It was a complete life change for us. We'd sat in places like The
Hand so many times and marvelled that such lovely old inns could
be in the hands of people who seemed to lack any kind of sparkle
or interest in hospitality. We were arrogant enough to believe we
could do better and daft enough to give it a go! There have been
times when we've looked at each other and said this is a fine mess
we've got ourselves in, but it's great fun too. We've met some great
people and had some wonderful times.
We're very proud and appreciative of our staff who are
mainly local people who feel a degree of ownership of The Hand:
it is the local pub as well as a hotel, a central part of the community.
We also employ people from other parts of the world from time to
time, they're invariably highly qualified and talented young people
who have taken the risk of coming here to learn English (and maybe
a bit of Welsh): we find that they contribute a flavour of difference
to the atmosphere.
